Every dollar raised by Children's Miracle Network stays in the community in which it was raised. To that end, all funds raised in Colorado, Wyoming and western Nebraska benefit The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colo. Children's is the only hospital in the Rocky Mountain region that is 100 percent dedicated to kids. The Children’s Miracle Network sponsors in the Rocky Mountain region have continuously shown their dedication to the cause, taking part in countless Miracle Balloon campaigns each year. Many of them go above and beyond to organize bake sales, car washes and golf tournaments in honor of Children's Miracle Network. Our corporate sponsors helped us raise more $1 million dollars for The Children's Hospital in 2005. Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder chip in to do their part in helping improve pediatric care by organizing an annual Dance Marathon. This event raised more than $53,000 in 2006. Our regional media partner, Alice 105.9 FM, graciously breaks away from their normal programming for three days each February to share miracle stories of survival and raise funds for the patients of The Children’s Hospital. The event raised more than $1 million dollars in 2006.
Children's Miracle Network/ Helppie Family Chair in Orthopaedic Movement Analysis Ryan Hayes was born with a severe orthopaedic condition. Dr. Chang cared for Ryan from birth, custom-making corrective splints for Ryan’s hands, arms, feet and knees. Ryan has had multiple operations at The Children’s Hospital, including one using a new device that saved his legs. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of our corporate partners and our community, Children’s Miracle Network has endowed a chair in Orthopaedic Movement Analysis at Children’s . The $2 million in chair funding will be invested, and a portion of earnings will support the chairholder's work. Frank Chang, MD, director of Orthopaedics and the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis at Children’s, is the inaugural chairholder. Dr. Chang, a former team doctor for the U.S. Olympic Freestyle Ski Team, studied the motion of the skiers in order to improve their performances. His work led to the development of the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis (CGMA), a high-tech, state-of-the-art lab where professionals study the motion of children in order to develop a plan to improve their ability to move. The CGMA primarily sees patients with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, limb deficiencies or amputations, and congenital or genetic abnormalities. There is no place like it in the region. The Children’s Miracle Network/Helppie Family Chair in Orthopaedic Movement Analysis will allow Dr. Chang to continue his important work of allowing children the simple gift of movement.
